The different characteristics of the cane have a significant influence on the success of the manufacture of our reeds. The appearance of the cane is often misleading. You have to go to the bottom of each piece of cane.  You will know if a piece of cane will be more or less hard.
 
The Reeds 'n Stuff hardness tester offers an objective way to judge quality. By measuring the hardness of both ends of the cane, you will be able to discern if a piece of cane has the same qualities throughout the room. In this way, we can make sure that both reed blades will vibrate in the same way. You can also determine whether a piece of cane will be more or less hard.
